PM allocates mass fish death compensation

 Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has allocated compensation levels for the four central provinces hit by the recent mass fish deaths caused by pollution from the Formosa Ha Tinh plant.
 According to the PM's decision, seven groups in the affected provinces of Quang Binh, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue will receive compensation. The occupations include seafood catching, aquaculture, salt production, coastal seafood business activities; fishing logistics services, coastal trade and tourism services and seafood wholesalers.
 
Under the PM's allocation, the highest compensation is some VND220 million for a fishing boat 

Owners of non-motorised fishing boats will be given VND5.83 million (USD276) compensation per month for the time they had to halt the fishing activities. Meanwhile, the compensation level is VND10.67 million per month for owners of fishing boats of below 20 HP; VND15.2 million for fishing boats of between 20 HP and 50 HP.
Owners of fishing boats of over 800 HP will receive the highest compensation of VND37.48 million per month.
Workers will receive from VND3.69 million to VND8.79 million per month, depending on different kinds of fishing.
Each salt farmer will receive VND2.91 million per month.
The people's committees of the four central provinces will make a list of local affected groups and send it to the Ministry of Finance.
The maximum compensation time is six months, dated from April this year. So, the highest compensation is some VND220 million for a fishing boat and roughly VND50 million for a labourer on the boats.
Hung Nghiep Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Co. Ltd. paid compensation of USD500 million for the mass fish deaths in the central region of Vietnam.
