Hanoi - The Transport Ministry will conduct the feasibility study of a 550km-long railway line, linking Laos' Vientiane to Vung Ang in Vietnam’s central province of Ha Tinh from December 2015 to December 2017.

The study will be conducted with a 3-million-USD ODA grant from the Korea International Co-operation Agency (KOICA), with the aim of preparing a master plan and providing capacity-building to the railway sectors of the two countries.

The study will be divided into three phases, comprising a six-month survey of the project, a one-year feasibility study and six months of finishing the study.

The KOICA will hold two training courses, one in June for training management officers and the other in March 2017 for training engineers.

The Railway Project Management Board will be the Vietnamese representative that will work with the KOICA.

The transport ministry and the KOICA had signed a record of discussion to study the feasibility of the railway line in October last year.

The Vietnamese section of the railway line from Vung Ang in the central Ha Tinh province to the Viet-Laos Border Gate will be 119km long.

The railway line will be an important link to the ASEAN as well as the Greater Mekong River sub-region.-VNA
