Nine people died and six are missing after flash floods triggered by Typhoon Kujira swept through the northern mountains in the last two days.
Son La Province has been the hardest hit with eight fatalities caused by flash floods and landslides, according to the provincial Steering Committee on Search and Rescue.
Three are missing.
The floods also damaged 23 houses and two irrigation works and wiped out around 80 hectares of crops.
In Lai Chau Province, a six-year-old girl died as floods swept through her village. A nine-year-old girl was swept away and is yet to be found.
Landslides have halted traffic on many roads in Lao Cai, Lai Chau and Dien Bien Provinces, which are expected to be cleared by Saturday.
Typhoon Kujira, the first tropical storm to hit Vietnam this year, brought torrential rains to nearly the entire north along with flash floods and landslides in mountainous provinces.
The storm has weakened into a depression.
