Traditional chung cake making village faces difficulties                                   Tranh Khuc, a traditional chung cake making village, in Hanoi is facing difficulties due to a sharp fall in demand, particularly as many households in the village have not yet received a food safety certificate.  As Tet is nearing, the village becomes busier with people transporting fresh phrynium and materials to make the cakes. However unlike previous years, this year the number of customers who reserve theirs in advance has dropped by half.   Tranh Khuc Chung Cake making village    Nguyen Van Ninh, a resident, said his family usually receives orders for between 4,000 and 5,000 cakes, but this year the number is much lower.  He added that due to the drastic fall in demand and the higher price of materials, many households pay less attention to the trade. Currently, the price of one cake is around 4,000-5,000 higher than last year. Thanh Khuc chung cakes have been famous for many years. The product is even exported to many countries in the world to serve overseas Vietnamese communities. Many local households have started using modern equipment for production. However, to date, the product is mostly sold at small shops and markets in Hanoi. Only some families have the supply chain necessary to place their products in supermarkets. Many households are now being fined for sending their product to supermarkets without proper food safety certificate. Only some of the chung cake producing households in the village have this certificate. However, some households have complained that it is a complicated and cumbersome process to get a food safety certificate, which includes verifying the exact source of all the ingredients.  Tienphong
