Mr. Lo Van Bong, a Thai ethnic minority, the messenger for General Giap in the Dien Bien Phu military campaign against French colonial force in 1954, represents the people of Muong Phang to present gifts to the General and his wife on the occasion of his return to visit the old battlefield in April, 2004.

Tuoi Tre unveils some unpublished photos of world-renowned General Vo Nguyen Giap on the occasion of his 102nd birthday.
General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Nguyen Phu Trong on Saturday visited and congratulated General Vo Nguyen Giap on the 102nd birthday of the legendary general at the 108 Military Hospital where Giap had stayed for more than a year.
On behalf of the Party and State, the General Secretary expressed gratitude for the contribution of General Giap to the country and wished him health and longevity.
Though physically weak, General Giap’s strong mental health enabled him to express joy on Trong’s visit and extend his thanks to the General Secretary.
On the same day, Phung Quang Thanh, Minister of Defense, and Pham Quang Nghi, Hanoi Party Secretary, also came to celebrate the birthday of General Giap at the hospital.
On this occasion, representatives of Tuoi Tre Newspaper also paid a visit to Prof. Dang Bich Ha, Giap’s wife, at home to send birthday flowers to General Giap.
