Minister expects improved accuracy in media briefings

The Deputy Minister of Information and Telecommunications, Do Quy Doan, has asked State administration agencies to provide the media with more accurate and comprehensive information.

Information must be provided regularly and in a professional manner, he said at a recent training workshop.
Doan also asked that the trainees, including public relations officers at people's committees at central-level and representatives from the press and publishers in the south, receive extra training and skills.
Director of the Press Department Hoang Huu Luong briefed the participants on the new regulations regarding official statements and supplying the media with information stipulated by a Government Decision in May this year.
Under the regulations, spokespersons are responsible for providing updated and accurate information to the media in emergency cases.
In addition, the Minister at the Government Office will supply the media with information on the Government's activities at press briefings or through the Government's web portal once a month.
Ministries, Government agencies and centrally-governed municipal and provincial People's Committees have also been directed to periodically inform the media on issues under their watch.
The regulations come into effect later this month.
