The Ministry of Public Security’s investigation agency has arrested an entrepreneur who is a former company director in Hanoi for credit card fraud.

27-year-old Nguyen Nam Hai, who is a resident of Dong Da District and is ex-director of the Online Export Import Solution Company Limited (OEIS), was detained yesterday for allegedly importing a large amount of goods bought in the US with stolen foreign credit card accounts.

Before arresting Hai, the police detained two other men, Lai Nguyen Khoi, of Hanoi, and Vuong Huy Long, of Ho Chi Minh City, for stealing information on foreign credit cards accounts.
They then used these stolen accounts to buy goods in the US, and Hai brought the goods into Vietnam.

They have been charged with appropriating assets using the telecommunication network and the Internet, police said.

Hai used the legal status of OEIS to help Long and Khoi transport the goods into the country, investigators said.

According to initial investigation results, from 2009 to March 2011, Hai transported about 1,800 cell phones, 149 laptops, 20 cameras and many other electronic and telecom devices into Vietnam from the U.S.

The total value of these items is estimated to be about VND2 billion (about US$96,000).

The police are expanding their investigation to track down others involved in the case.
